I didn't feel entirely comfortable with the doctor's evaluation of Evy last night--I thought we were kind of brushed off and my suggestion that she had some sort of injury was pretty much ignored. So, we continued to monitor her today. This morning I noticed she wasn't using her left arm and asked Scott to keep an eye on the left arm this afternoon. He tried handing her blocks and balls and she would not use her left arm to grab anything. After yet another trip to the doctor--to see our normal pediatrician Evy was diagnosed with Nursemaid Elbow. "Nursemaid elbow is a common injury among preschool-aged children. In fact, review articles cite it as the most common orthopedic injury in children under 2 years of age." Our pediatrician popped the elbow back in place in the office and Scott reports that Evy is already using her left arm again. I'm disturbed that this wasn't picked up by the doctor last night and it just reinforces the fact that, as parents, we must serve as advocates for our children. I'm so glad that we have an explanation and that Evy is feeling better.

So glad she is better! You know your child best so it is good to be persistent with the medical providers!!
Poor Baby! YOU know your kiddo best. In the hospital every day, we LISTEN to the parents. They just know.
Trust your instincts and unfortunately you need to be the advocate for yourself, your child and your family.
Ok - this totally freaks me out. Way to go Mom - not sure I would have picked up on that so quick. Veda likes to tell me everything hurts so I kiss her "boo boos" - I probably wouldn't believe her if she told me something really hurt!
You are absolutely correct. They don't call us Mama Bears for nothing. The power of instinct saves the day time and again. Glad Evy is feeling much better :)
