Score!

I am not much of a bargain shopper. I just don't have the patience to dig through racks of unorganized clothes. I've been working on that patience thing for 30 years, but still not there. Last night while walking through the mall I thought to myself "I should check the children's sale rack for some 12 month clothing to take to Florida." Guess what I found? This cute swimsuit and a pair of pink shorts for $0.99 each! Score! Maybe frugality will trump impatience from here on out. Doubtful...

First Birthday

Today Evy is one. What an amazing year! Joy, frustration, elation, and exhaustion. One year ago we were blessed with a gorgeous healthy baby and have had a journey of highs and lows as we learned how to take care of her. No one can prepare you for how demanding parenthood is, but no one can prepare you for how great it is at the same time. Today Evy is a funny, sweet, smart little girl who is loved by so many people.

I took the day off to spend it with Evy. We started the day off with waffles and then got her one year photos taken. The photo shoot was a bust. Evy would not sit or stand still long enough for the photographer to catch her. The poor photographer was working so hard to get Evy's attention. We haven't seen the photos yet, but I could tell the photographer was doubtful anything would turn out. Oh, well. After lunch we went to my office for the annual Trick or Treat outing. Evy had such fun running up and down the hallways. Tonight for her birthday dinner I made homemade macaroni and cheese, and snuck a jar of baby food into the mac and cheese to add a little nutrition!

What a year! Looking forward to the next one.

Birthday Party

On Sunday, Evy's family came over to celebrate her 1st birthday. She had a great time! She got an awesome wagon from Grammy and Papa and Gma and Gpa S. got her an activity cube and a table that Grandpa made. We had a hard time getting her out of the wagon and out of the Evy-sized chairs that went with her table. Way too much fun to be had!

Cuddles

Evy loves her Carter's blanket sleepers. If I get one out and lay it on the ground she will come lay on top of it and wants me to put it on her. If I take it off of her to get her dressed she will carry the sleeper around for the next 10 minutes grunting...which is her way of saying, "Put this thing back on me! I want to stay in my pajamas all day!" I couldn't agree more.

Size 3 Sandals?

Anyone have any size 3 girls summer shoes that we could borrow? We're heading to Florida next month and Evy doesn't have any summer shoes. I don't want to buy any since we're heading into winter.

Good Luck Charm

The Hawks are 11-1 since Evy was born. I think she's our good luck charm.

Update: Make that 12-1!!!!

A Classic

Top Gun was on AMC this week. I thought AMC only played movies from my grandparents' era. Turns out Top Gun is 23 years old! How did that happen? It was fun to watch and reminded me of all the catch phrases that came from the movie "Negative Ghostrider" and "Wing Man." It also demonstrated how fashion comes around every 20 years or so. Tom was sporting his aviator shades and Kelly had her jeans tucked into her boots. Guess nothing is ever new.

Daddy's Girl

Evy loves her daddy so much, and who can blame her? For the last two days she has been on a major "Daddy's Girl" run...only interested in hanging out with her dad. I'm hating every minute of it while Scott is loving every minute.

Party Like a Rock Star

So, wedding receptions are kind of my thing. I like to dance, what can I say. On Saturday night I partied like I did B.C. (before child). I drank a little too much, danced a little too hard and stayed up a little too late. It all worked out swimmingly until Evy decided not to nap (AT ALL) on Sunday. Whew! That hurt.
The first pose is for Cindy who wanted to see my dress. I wore sleeves. Seemed a little old lady but hey it fit.
The next photo is me, my sister-in-law and Shari dancing to Beyonce's "Single Ladies." It looks like Shari was laughing at me, but I'm sure that's not the case (ha!)
The last photo is of me scaring my aunt. I hope I didn't slap her anywhere inappropriate.

Doll Face

Evy loves dolls and stuffed animals. She was a little confused by the scarecrow. Not at all afraid. She thought he was a doll. And, we found some of my old Cabbage Patch dolls and she loves those too.

Errand Overload

My errands seem to be multiplying faster than Gremlins. I've been to Target 3 times this week and it's only Thursday. I think it is correlated to the changing of the seasons which means it's a mad dash to make sure I have long sleeve clothing, hats and mittens that fit Evy. And I need those in duplicate to ensure she has all the proper attire on hand at daycare. Oh, and don't forget...diaper rash is back so pick up some more Resinol on your way home. I stopped at Walgreen's this morning on my way to work to try to get the Resinol but the pharmacy doesn't open until 8. Bridgette---can you please adjust those hours to meet my needs?

Cousins

Evy has 5 cousins on Scott's side. The four oldest are boys so her cousin Kate was so happy to get Evy as a partner in crime. On my side it's Evy and Jacob, who is 6 weeks younger. They're still little enough to like each other at this point.

Where the Boys Are

Evy's cousin Jacob and friends Mason and Lincoln came from Chicago to visit this weekend. Poor Evy was outnumbered by all the boys. She didn't seem to mind, she was the one doing most of the shoving, poking and bossing. Guess the boys better get used to it.

Silly Billy

In the last two weeks Evy has become really funny. She laughs and smiles constantly and has started to copy everything we say and do. Who needs any other form of entertainment when you have a daughter this silly?

Kisses

Evy is learning how to give kisses. I say, "Give mommy a kiss," and she opens her mouth up wide and then touches her mouth to mine. It's so funny. She hasn't figured out how to pucker yet.

The Babysitter

Elisabeth Shue is 46 today? Really? I will always think of her as the 17 year old babysitter who gets a flat tire while trying to get into the city to pick up her runaway friend, who gets chased by the Chicago mob, sings some Blues, gets rescued by Thor, falls in love with a University of Chicago student and still manages to get back home before the parents. I had the dance in the opening credits memorized "He walked up to me and he asked me if I wanted to dance..."

Hip Hip Hooray!

Scott's mom gave us this red plate to be used for special occasions. The idea is that whoever has a special day gets to eat their dinner off of this special red plate. It will be a lot of fun to use as Evy gets older. On Monday Scott got to eat off the red plate because HE ACCEPTED A NEW JOB!!!!!!!!!! A new job that doesn't require regular overnight travel. I am so excited I might just let him eat off the red plate for the rest of the month!

'Tis The Season...

On Wednesday we had to pick Evy up from daycare early. She was running a 101 temperature. I stayed home with her yesterday and Scott is staying home with her today. I guess it is October 1 but it seems way to early to start this sickness stuff. Scott and I got our flu shots and Evy will get hers in a couple of weeks. It's going to be a long winter...
