1. The first time in a long time that everyone is out of diapers. This is great news, but I spent a large portion of my summer in public restrooms. When you have three kids going on their own schedule you become very familiar with the public restrooms in town. At the grocery store, at the library, at the rec center, at the gas station, at every restaurant, at the mall, at the donut shop, at all...the....stores.
2. The first time that no one took naps. This is nice because it opens up your schedule and means you're not rushing around to fit naptime in between things. But it also means that there is no break. Scott left the house at 7 a.m. most mornings and everyone was very excited for him to get home when he walked through the door at 6!
3. Sleeping together almost every night for the girls. They would camp out in Evy's room and play with their dolls until we told them to go to sleep for the 100th time. Usually it was 10:00 or later by the time they actually went to sleep. Some nights they argued and Charlie ended up in her own bed.
4. The summer when selfies started showing up on my phone frequently.
5. When Evy wanted to binge watch Heartland on Netflix. With 11 seasons and nearly 15 episodes per season she may get through it in 5 years. She was so into this show that she would lock herself in my room and watch it so she wouldn't be interrupted by her brother or sister. That went over well!
6. When I caved and allowed Will to watch complete junk on the iPad. See #2. He shows no interest in watching TV and I have got to get some things done. He likes to watch YouTube videos and his favorite is Family Fun Pack. It is good in absolutely no way other than it entertains him for 20 minutes.
7. The first time my kids have ever remotely slept in! Everyone went to bed later at night and it finally translated into later wake times. Evy was typically up by 7, but sometimes slept in a bit later. Will and Charlie slept until 8:30 most mornings! I was up at 5:40 most mornings to make my 6 a.m. gym workout so I didn't get to enjoy the sleeping in part, but it was lovely to have some time each morning to tackle some projects.
8. Not a literary summer for me. This spring I bought a book at Barnes and Noble and assumed it would be my summer read. I didn't read a single page this summer. Well, that's not true. I read a ton of kids books. But not one single book for myself. Typically my down time is from 9 to 10 p.m. each night and this summer I chose to spend my one hour watching Friday Night Lights on Netflix. It took me all summer but I finished the series in September!
