Just another weird thing this year - Halloween COVID style. Johnson County Public Health put out guidelines that advised against handing out candy at the door. Our neighbors got creative and made trick-or-treat a great time for the kids! We met up at the Austen's for pizza at 5 p.m. Evy and her crew took off by themselves, Charlie and her friends were escorted by a couple of parents and I went with Will and the younger kids. People threw candy from their porch, lowered a basket of candy from their deck, set out cups on the driveway, and all kinds of great ways for the kids to secure a LOAD of candy! The weather was beautiful and we walked a long way. A great change from the snow we experienced last year.

Halloween Happenings
Time seemed to get away from me this year so we crammed most of our Halloween/Fall traditions into the very last week of October. We finally had some decent weather so we made it to the Pumpkin Patch on Evy's birthday - Grandma and Papa went with us and we were glad to survive the maze for another year. Scott took the lead on the annual pumpkin carving extravaganza and I would say this year was the first one that the kids stuck around at the table and actually kind of participated. The girls enjoyed taking all of my fall decorations and creating a little photoshoot.

Bengals Flag Football
This was Will's first year playing Flag football. Scott got roped into being the coach and he ended up leading the team to an 8-0 record and the 1st/2nd grade championship! Will had so much fun and clearly loved it! He made some new friends and proved to be a fast runner. What a fun season!
Will and his new friend Andy.
Every Sunday Will would wake up excited to play. He would lay his clothes out the night before and then continue to ask "how many more hours until my game?"

The girls played Rec Volleyball this fall. This is Charlie's second year and Evy's first year. They had to wear masks for practices and games due to COVID. They were able to play their games in the brand new Green State Field House.

The First Snow - In October
Snow on October 19? What in the world? Evy is not pictured because she doesn't have snow boots that fit - I was not ready for this junk!! The kids on the other hand loved it - Will could not wait to get home from school and go sledding.
Wickham Star
This little cutie is having a great year at school. His teacher gave him a Wickham Star award because he is doing a great job, is very well behaved, and is a good example to his classmates. Good job buddy, we are so proud of you!

Fall Festival
The kids didn't have school on Friday so we got an early start to Keosauqua as Papa was waiting for the kids to mow the yard. And the kids wanted to earn some mowing money! They got lucky because while we were at the barn mowing the farmer who rents Great Grandpa Rex's land was harvesting the soybeans so the kids all got a ride in a combine. Will was very interested in the beans. On Saturday morning we went to the parade and walked around downtown checking out the vendors. Will was constantly in motion helping papa work and he ended up earning an additional $10 by cleaning cow poop off Papa's side by side.
