This and That

What else happened in September?

Our elementary school starts an hour earlier this year which means the kids are out of school an hour earlier. The early pick up time is really tricky when you consider Will's nap time is smack in the middle of it. So, we have a pretty slick carpool going with two other families. On some days the crew of 7 kids walk home. One day it was about 90 degrees when they walked home and they all looked beat so I broke out the popsicles.

The kids love the fun fair at their school each Fall. It's always crowded and hot so we got there early this year and were first in line for the balloon artist. It was fun meeting all of Charlie's new friends and seeing Evy's usual group.

Football Saturdays. I do not take time to watch the games anymore. A 3 or 4 hour TV commitment is more than I typically watch in a week (sometimes even a month). It was nice outside and my buddy needed some exercise so we hit the park instead.

Grandma Joan and Papa Jake were in town and were in charge of the Hurts Donuts run. That explains why there are 40 donuts for 7 people.

Iowa Homecoming Parade

The weather was great, the kids were so well behaved, I almost enjoyed myself at the parade this year!

Will was content standing back from the parade. This put a little space between him and the loud bands and fire trucks.

Charlie was right up front in the action and had a great time with her classmate Conor.

This cool chick also had a great time scoring loads of candy.

Really a fun night! Wagon loaded down and heading back to the car.

Final Cruise

We had really warm weather this September but didn't get many chances to take the boat out. We had a great final cruise on the lake. Evy did a lot of the driving and we saw pelicans at the MacBride dam. The girls were great on the boat this year continuing to get braver when it comes to tubing and swimming in the lake. They loved using our friend's Super Mable tube and we became proud owners of the tube at the end of the season our friends decided to give up boating. That tube will get lots of use next year!

Move It, Dig It, Do It

While the girls and I were at a birthday party Scott took Will to the Children's Museum Move It, Dig It, Do It event. I don't have a single picture from the birthday party so Scott wins the photo contest for this day!

A carousel ride to wrap up the boy's outing.

It's Football Season!

Our football Saturdays have changed a lot over the years! From spending all day tailgating and attending every game plus usually an annual road trip and bowl game to not even having season tickets! This is what having three kids looks like on football Saturdays:

Train ride to the stadium!

Kids at the tailgate

Home to watch the game and then out for some post dinner shenanigans.

Introducing the kids to coach Fry. They asked if he liked fries and if he was dead. Lots of questions!

First Day of "School"

Will started going to play school for two mornings each week. On his first morning he told me he did not want to go and he cried when I dropped him off. His sober expression in these pictures show just how excited he was to go! When I picked him up he didn't want to leave. He has so much fun playing with "Ms. Rori". I think these pictures of him with his backpack are just so cute I couldn't choose just one.

Birthday Surprise (?)

Scott loves Metallica so I got him this T-shirt for his birthday. I also tucked two tickets to Hair Ball into his gift and hoped he would not think I bought him tickets to Metallica. Well, he did think that and I had to break it to him that no, I spent $10 per ticket for Hair Ball. Sorry, maybe Metallica next year!

Hair Ball! Almost like Metallica!

Looking for water!

We still have weather well into the 80s in September but most of the pools close down during the week once school starts. Will and I decided to check out the new splash pad. He showed little interest and mostly enjoyed running between the slides in the park and the splash pad.
