Gymnastics

 

These days Hawkeye gymnastics meets are much more in our price and crowd tolerance range than other Hawkeye sports. So, we supported the women's team today.

 

First course was ice cream.

When the girls saw Herky approaching them Evy scooted away from the aisle seat and Charlotte covered her face with a napkin.

Fun City

Our cousins took a little spring break trip to Iowa and we couldn't let them play alone so we met them at Fun City in Burlington for a few hours this week. The kids had a BLAST at Ballocity and Uncle Caleb and Papa Jake also acted like kids as they shot everyone with balls.

 

The kids liked racing down this huge slide. Charlie was so light that she caught a lot of air and basically tumbled down the entire thing. She didn't cry, but she looked a little dazed and moved on to a slide more her size.

First Sleep Over

Evy spent the night with a friend for the first time last night! I think it only 60% counts as the first sleep over since her friend is someone we've known for Evy's entire life and her friend is five years older than she is. The bonus of having a surrogate big sister is someone to read to you before bed time, someone to take you to the bathroom at 3 a.m., someone to encourage you to go back to sleep when you wake up at 6 a.m., and someone to make you a bowl of cereal when you make her get out of bed at 7 a.m. Thanks for being such a great hostess "E"!

So Cold!

 

There is only one word to summarize this winter....cold. Or, maybe miserable? The headlines on our local news site today are "Record Low for Feb. 10 Broken" "Weather is damaging Water Lines" "Water Main Break Leaves Residents Without Water" "Responding Nonstop: 'This Winter Has Just Been Absolutely Miserable'" "Mother leaves 2-year-old boy in Freezing Car."

 

The low today was -16 and tomorrow is supposed to be -20. I try not to complain about the cold because I choose to live in the Midwest, I like my seasons, and am not a fan of excessive heat. But I think this cold has exceeded my threshold for tolerance. This picture is from this morning. Evy has two blankets over her and Charlie is covered with four. Evy loves to play outside in the snow but the temperature hasn't been above freezing in days so I can't let her outside. Only 37 more days until Spring! 

Baby on Board!

 

 

Well, the announcement had been made on Facebook so I suppose it's time to share it here too. We have a baby on the way! The baby is due on June 8 which means we'll bump Evy off the daycare payroll onto the tax payer dime (public school) just in time to start paying the daycare bill for baby!

This time we have decided not to find out the sex, although we think the technician gave away a few clues during my 20 week ultrasound. She called the baby a "she" once and called it pretty...not handsome. Scott is convinced that it's a girl and says he will be getting a male dog (in several years) to help even things out. Evy and Charlie also think it's a girl, but that is because they WANT it to be a girl. As Evy says, "boys are stinky."

This pregnancy has been my hardest...which is not surprising since I am old and have two other children to take care of this time around. I've been exhausted and had horrible shortness of breath and dizziness...such fun when trying to keep up with Evy and Charlie!

The 20 week ultrasound was awesome. We were able to get a great shot of the nose and lips and the baby was very active--kicking its legs up over its head which is not surprising as I have been feeling lots of movement from the baby. I have been blessed with easy pregnancies and am hoping for an uneventful remaining 18 weeks, an on-time delivery, and a healthy baby regardless of gender. Excited to meet this little one!
