Conversations with Evy

Me: What does a cow say?

Evy: Moooooooo

Me: What does a cat say?

Evy: Meooooowwww

Me: What does a dog say?

Evy: No No No!

------------------------

Me: Could you please take a drink of your milk?

Evy: Noooooooo

---------------------

Notice a trend here? That's right. Evy knows exactly what no means and is starting to use it frequently. It's funny now, because the way she says it might be the cutest thing I've ever heard. However, I'm sure the humor will quickly wear off.

Getting Bored...

Today was our 5th day home sick. I'm really reaching for entertainment...

The Torture Chamber

This morning I had to take Evy to the torture chamber (aka doctor's office). She's had a runny nose and cough for 6 days. Low grade temperature Thursday - Sunday and then last night the fever spiked to 103. UGH! I would rather have a root canal than take Evy to the doctor. She flips out the second the nurse shuts the door. In her mind she must be thinking "They're going to kill me! Get me the hell out of here!" I brought a bag of tricks (literally) with me this morning hoping that a distraction from Elmo, a book, a block or yogurt melts would put the freak out at bay. Wrong, silly mommy. By the end of the exam I was sweating bullets. More of a work out than a 60 minute body pump session...which by the way, I haven't attended in more than 3 weeks since our house has been chaos with sickness. Did I mention they had to prick her finger to check for a bacterial infection? THEY'RE GOING TO REALLY KILL ME!!!!! Still sweating bullets. The doctor didn't find a bacterial infection so we were sent home to "wait it out". We left with no meds. I was hoping I could get some....guess that's a different kind of doctor....

Snack

Evy calls breakfast, lunch and dinner "snack." Here she shares a snack with Brown Bear, Bow Bow and Dolly.

Night Night

"Night Night" is one of Evy's favorite games. It takes two forms. In one version of the game Evy goes night night. She loves to lie down on her blanket and have you cover her with another one. She wiggles around and you can tell she's beside herself with relaxation joy. She is her father's daughter after all! Notice in the above photos she is going "night night" in the bathroom. Hey, whatever it takes to entertain her while we get ready in the morning! In the other version of the game, Evy puts her stuffed animal friends "night night." She has to lay* them on their stomach and then cover them with a blanket. Night Night!

*Or is it lie them down, Morgan? Lay/Lie...why does it have to be so hard?

Gold Medal for Whistler

In 2007 we visited Vancouver and Whistler so we're having a blast watching the winter Olympics and seeing glimpses of the cities (I guess village is a better word for Whistler.) It's beautiful! We visited in the summer and Whister is crazy with mountain bikers that time of year. But, we stuck to hiking and white water rafting. If you're looking for an amazing place to vacation we say go to Whistler! Just check out those views!

Duck?

We have a seat cushion with this Major League Baseball (MLB) logo on it. Evy was playing with the seat cushion and kept saying duck. duck. duck. We were so confused. What in the world is she saying? Well, MLB obviously didn't test their logo on a focus group of toddlers because if you look closely you will see a duck. Pay no attention to the bat. See how the bill of the hat and the nose of the player look like a duck bill? Evy is much smarter than we are.

Party On!

Evy's class is having a Valentine's Day party today. The kids were to dress in red or pink. Evy's wearing both colors because she's a cute little girl who can get away with pink corduroy pants and a red shirt. We were also asked to bring treats. The suggested treats were string cheese, crackers, juice, and jello cups. Sounds like one heck of a party!

A Little Evy

Here's Evy doing what she does...

Conspiracy?

I think battery manufacturers have engineered batteries to only die when it's dark outside. It's a conspiracy. How else can you explain the fact that carbon monoxide and smoke detectors only notify you (BEEP!) that the batteries are low in the middle of the night? Think about it...

Accessories

Evy likes to wear accessories in the house. Her favorites are hats, coats and shoes. I picked up the pink shoes this weekend and she had to wear them immediately. They are a little big so we hid them to avoid any issues. Well, she spotted them like a hawk this morning and just had to wear them around the house. Future fashionista?

Casualty

Elmo was a casualty from this morning's puking rally. He went through a wash cycle and is currently drying. Evy has been walking around all morning saying "Melmo? Melmo? Melmo?" To be safe, I've already placed an order for a backup.

Duck Duck Puke

At our house we play a constant game of duck duck goose. Which sucker will be selected next to be sick? I was the winner on Thursday and Friday. Down for the count. So bad that I did not do one bit of housework while I was left to myself in the house for 2 entire days. Unheard of. This morning at 4 a.m. it was apparent that Evy was the next winner! Duck Duck Puke! You're it!

Got Milk?

I feel like we are always out of milk. Do gremlins come in the house at night and drink it all?

Evyisms

It's really amazing how much Evy changes each week (picture is her at 1 day old). Recent Evyisms:

Elmo--has been her lovey that she sleeps with for more than 6 months. She can now say his name. She leaves off the "Eh" sound so it's more like Melmo, but still very cute.

Nodding--So funny! She will nod her head "yes" in response to a question. It's an exaggerated and not very smooth nod, but I find myself asking her a question just so I can see her nod.

Wash--Evy walks up to sinks, holds her hands out and says "wa-wa-wa" this means she wants to wash her hands. Funny, but it gets old after the 50th time. This behavior increases when Grandma S. is around because Grandma S. gives in to the "wa" request every time.

Kind of a big deal

You know wrestling is kind of a big deal around these parts when two male cheerleaders "chest bump" after a win. We watched the #1 Iowa Hawkeyes shut out Michigan State last night. It was a fun night with Scott's sister, her husband and two of our nephews. If you're in the area you should make it to a meet this year. How often do we get to have National Champions in our back yard? Well, I guess every year if you're talking wrestling. Go, hawks!
