Summer Bucket List

The kids made just a short list this summer but that didn't stop us from packing a million things into our summer days.

They wanted a pajama day, where they got to wear their pajamas all day long. So, we turned it into a movie day.

Our annual trip to the Natural History Museum.

Picnic on the Pentacrest.

Lots of swimming!

Farmer's market to get doughnuts.

Annual Cambus Ride.

Annual bike ride to get doughnuts.

More friend swimming.

Dad took them to go ice skating. Will's first time skating and he did great.

Shedd Chicago Trip

It's the last weekend of the summer so we decided to take one last road trip. We spent Friday at Shedd Aquarium and then the rest of the weekend at my brother's house celebrating Mason's 8th birthday.

Waiting for the dolphin show.

Beautiful day on Lake Michigan

Relaxing dinner at Lou Malnati's.

The Summer of Goats

On one side of our neighborhood we are boardered by a forest. Just this summer the forest was put into a nature preserve trust and the trust started cleaning up invasive plant species. Thier first line of defense was a heard of goats. The goats are fenced into a small area and they literally eat everything in that area clearing it of poison ivy, thorns and weeds. We stumbled upon the heard while we were hiking in late July. The kids quickly assumed the goats were their pets and named them all. Choco, Lily, Milo, Pepper, Snowflake, Bearda, Duke, and Bob Jr. are just some of the ones I can remember. The kids would check on the goats multiple times per day and soon word spread in the neighborhood. Heards of kids would spend most of the day checking out the goats. The kids got more brave and started getting into the fence with the goats which knocked the fence down and allowed the goats to escape. Things quickly escalated and eventually the goats were roaming the neighborhood. Such a fun addition to our summer adventures. The kids even cried when the goats left and moved on to their next job.

John Deere Pavilion

This was a first time field trip for us to the John Deere Pavilion. Will is really into trucks, tractors and any large machinery. The girls spent at least 30 minutes making an animated video. Definitely a successful outing.

Everyone loved driving the HUUUUGE combine

Those are some BIG tires.

The gift shop was one of the favorite things.....

Making an animated movie.

Trying to pick up and move big logs.
