Same Chair, Bigger Baby

Pony

I wear my hair in a ponytail. A lot. Evy calls it my "pony" and has started asking "Eddie Pony?" Poor, bald baby. There is no way to turn her 4 fine strands into a legitimate ponytail, but I did my best and crafted this pathetic "pony." Evy thought it was so cool, and really that's all that counts.

Sick Week

It all started a week ago. Evy came home from daycare with a temperature. Runny nose and then a cough followed. Scott stayed home with her on Monday. Tuesday she seemed better, Wednesday afternoon she had a temperature again. I stayed home with her on Thursday and took her to the doctor. They drew blood which showed an infection so we had a chest x-ray which ruled out pneumonia. Good news...sort of...but no answer as to why she has been running a 101 temp for a week. Grandma Joan came to the rescue and stayed with Evy on Friday and the culprit revealed itself....Friday Evy's ear started draining. Ear Infection! Cripes...the tubes had prevented that for the past year. Antiobiotics are working their magic now, lets hope we're not in store for another winter full of ear infections.

Street Performer

As part of a public art initiative Iowa City has placed 2 pianos in downtown public spaces for anyone to play. On Saturday, Evy couldn't contain herself as a young guy plunked out some funky jams. She, too, became a street performer! Shaking her booty, pumping her arms and running around with excitement. It was so fun to watch. Have I mentioned that I love this town?

New Cousin!

Evy's new cousin Mason arrived last week! I stole this picture from my sister-in-law's blog because I just love it!

Buddies

Evy loves our neighbor kids. These buddies live across the street and Evy loves to yell at them, wave at them and copy everything they do. We've also been major beneficiaries when they outgrow their toys!! I'm pretty sure Evy picks up a new "gift" every time we visit. Cheers to great neighbors!
p.s. I think Evy's sunglasses are just a bit too small. They look a little ridiculous!

My Kind of Weekend

Last weekend was the best kind. No obligations and everyone at home, together. We were even able to fit in boating and a homemade breakfast. I should note that in our house homemade breakfast still comes out of a box. But, mixing in water and then cooking it in a pan means I made it. At home. So there.

No Hit Sam!

Evy has been saying "No Hit Sam!" quite a bit lately. The other morning when I dropped her off at school she started saying it the second we walked in the building. Sam, is a little guy in her class and it got me wondering if Sam is hitting Evy or just hitting in general. Scott asked the teachers this morning and apparently Sam is an equal opportunity hitter--everyone is fair game. Evy is just repeating what she hears the teachers saying. Little Miss Boss Lady.

Keith Urban at State Fair

What was the highlight of the fair? For me, it was when Keith Urban came into the grandstand and was 30 people away from me. But, seeing Herky, purchasing an unnecessary Hawkeye cowboy hat, seeing the Giant Bull, and eating ribbon fries, a funnel cake, a pickle dawg, a philly cheese steak, fried cheese curds, a pork sandwich, a deep fried snickers, and popcorn were all close behind.

Key Up!

Evy is speaking very well, and says most things very clearly. There are a few things that are still hard for her to pronounce and one of those is the phrase "Cover Up". She loves to be covered up by her blanket, whether it's to go to sleep or to hide. She can't quite say cover so it always comes out as "Key Up." Funny.

Side Trip--Hannibal

Scott gives me a hard time for taking him to tourist traps. I kind of like them. They remind me of the vacations I took as a child (sorry mom and dad!). On our way home from St. Louis I suggested a lunch stop in Hannibal where I actually did vacation as a child--Mark Twain's landing and Mark Twain's cave--high class stuff. But really, can you go wrong in the hometown of Mark Twain? On my blackberry I found Sawyer's Creek Fun Park "fun for the whole family." So we went. It was special. The advertised "Bounce House" looked like it was $95.99 at Wal-Mart, but it was a goofy way to spend an hour. And, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the first time I've been there...

St. Louis--The City Museum

This place is like nothing I've ever seen before. A St. Louis artist reclaimed materials from throughout the city and worked them into this crazy play house. Tunnels, 10 story slides, circus acts...I can't even describe it. Yes, you are seeing a real school bus attached to the roof of the place. Simply amazing. Just go there...

Meet Me In St. Louis--Zoo

At the last minute we decided to head out of town this weekend for an end of summer getaway. Lollapalooza was in Chicago and put hotels in downtown at $400 per night so our destination quickly changed to St. Louis. And, we were not disappointed. Saturday we started off at the St. Louis Zoo. The Zoo opens at 8 a.m. and this is one time Evy's "rise with the sun" schedule worked out great. No lines, no traffic and free carousel rides for the first hour. Admission is free and the zoo is awesome. If you haven't been there, well there are a few weeks left in the summer...

My Baby

Scott and I both call Evy "My Baby". Sometimes she'll joke with us and respond to me with "No! Daddy Baby" and tells Scott "No! Mommy Baby" it becomes a game of whose baby she is. Of course she also likes to say "My Baby" in reference to herself. Scott is out of town so I'm going to claim her as "My Baby" today.

Moving On Up!

Today is Evy's first day in her new room at daycare. She has been splitting her time for the last several weeks, but today was the big transition. She is officially in the 2-3 year old room Sob! I think the move will be for the best as she was starting to get bored in her old room. In this room they start potty training and Evy has shown a lot of interest in what the other kids are doing on that potty. In fact, she went pee in the potty at school on Friday! I'm sure she'll be exhausted when I pick her up this afternoon--keeping up with the big kids all day is hard work!
