Holiday Weekend

The goals for the weekend were to organize the garage and spend time on the lake. After 6 weeks of living in the house we are finally able to pull both cars into the garage--mission accomplished! However, a quick look at the forecast made us realize we would not be spending any time on the lake.

So, we decided to tackle the playroom. We purchased paint, painted the entire room (four colors), and called Papa Jake to beg for help installing the trim.

Installed a tension rod and tie backs for the "princess hideout".

And started moving in the toys. On the chalkboard wall "mom" staked out the upper area with her name.

Charlie is enjoying the magnet wall.

And then at about 5 p.m. on Monday it actually stopped raining! So the girls played in their pool while wearing rain boots.

Why is Evy wearing her bike helmet? Because she rides her bike for 3 minutes, then plays in the pool for 3 minutes, then does sidewalk chalk for 2 minutes, then rides her bike for 1.5 minutes, then sits in her chair for 2 minutes, then rides her bike for 1 minute. And I AM SICK OF PUTTING THE HELMET ON 50 TIMES IN A 30 MINUTE PERIOD!

And this sexy beast just wonders around doing odd jobs. Lots of odd jobs since we moved into this house! I am one lucky woman!

Wedding Weekend

My cousin was married over the weekend so our entire family met up to celebrate the occasion. With 5 kids under age 5 in tow we certainly had our hands full. Between the ceremony and reception we grabbed ice cream and hung out in the town square. Evy was very interested in the bride and groom kissing, the wedding cake, and the dancing. She loved her first wedding! Evy and Charlie have so much fun with their cousins that it almost makes the craziness worth it!

Smack Down

This week has put a real smack down on our family. It started last Friday night when Charlie came down with the stomach flu. By Monday night Scott and I were both down. This is the first time we've both been sick at the same time and parenting is a little challenging under those circumstances. Scott peeled himself out of bed long enough to get the girls to daycare on Tuesday morning and I peeled myself out of bed long enough to get them picked up. We both nauseously made our appearance at Evy's Kindermusic concert Tuesday night. On Wednesday one of our major house buying fears came true--the geothermal cooling system is not working. We are nauseous again as we wait to find out if a fix is going to drain the girls' college funds. We knew this house wasn't move in ready but six straight weeks of calls and appointments with multiple contractors (I'm talking plumbing, electrical, painting, cable, phone, HVAC, wood floor, drywall, carpeting, carpenters, shower door installer and at least 5 more that I'm forgetting) is seriously taking its toll. This has been zero fun! Bleh! And UGH! I think that covers it.

The Life

And this, my friends, is what summer is all about.

*Note 1: Hair was done at daycare. Totally cracks me up.
*Note 2: Look at the shadow in pictures 2 and 3. Evy is standing behind me making faces trying to get Charlie's attention. I think Evy's seen this trick somewhere before.

Spring Concert

I love all things music so when Evy started showing interest in signing along with me at home and cranking the music in the car I thought we should enroll her in a music class. Our daycare offers programs (for an extra cost of course) right at the center so it was easy to get Evy enrolled in Kindermusik. Last night was the spring concert. Evy had a blast being a bunny with her friends Heather and Emmy. At one point the bunnies were supposed to be asleep and snore. Evy was snoring so loud she had her friend Heather in hysterics. The teacher, Miss Jodi, was great with the kids! It was controlled chaos at best, but Evy had a great time.

Miss Independent

"I do it. Char Char turn. Me do it." From washing her hands to getting dressed Charlotte wants to do it all by herself. Dealing with the stubbornness of independence is very different for us. We have a four year old who still wants us to do everything for her.

Beware of Biker

Our new neighbor girl just learned to ride her bike without training wheels. Unfortunately, she hasn't learned to steer or brake so well and Charlie was in her way last night. Ugh! It happened so quickly, Charlie's poor little leg was ran over by the bike tire. It completely buckled Charlie's leg and she couldn't put any weight on it afterwards. I took her to the doctor and luckily nothing is broken, just a sprain. She seems to be doing fine today. Scared the heck out of me and I don't remember if I handled myself very gracefully with the other little girl's mother when they came to apologize immediately after the accident. I know I said, "It's ok. It was an accident. Don't worry. You're doing a great job riding your bike." But I might have said it through clenched teeth.

Rewind to Easter

No table in the kitchen--makes for a perfect spot to spread out.

Charlie got a "pack-pack" so she can be just like big sister.

Evy got bored of the hunt and said, "Charlie can have the rest of the eggs."

We were in the process of moving on Easter weekend so our celebration was homemade waffles served on paper plates, an Easter Egg hunt, and then lots of box moving. Also, lots of questions from Evy asking if Jesus is actually dead or alive. I made the mistake of telling her the true meaning of Easter.

Evy completed her second year of dance class with a recital performance of "Once Upon a Dream."

Progress?

I needed 20 minutes to quickly vacuum two bedrooms and the stairs. I contained Charlie in her highchair and left her unattended with markers. Not the best choice, but I needed to keep her occupied. She gave herself a makeover. While I was cleaning Charlie's face Evy yelled from the bathroom. She'd had an accident all over the bathroom floor. One step forward, two steps back.
