Fatigue, morning sickness, heartburn, swelling, all common during pregnancy. But, have you heard of
Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD)? I hadn't, until this week when I couldn't walk without a horrible stabbing pain in my pelvis. This was unlike any other pressure, ache, or pain, I've felt before. I was brought to tears by day two and figured I better do some research and touch base with my doctor. I diagnosed myself with SPD using Google and prepared myself to be assertive with my OB because I knew I would be blown off with "yes, that's just common ligament pain." I've had the ligament pain and this is nothing like ligament pain. Ligament pain is uncomfortable. This is unbearable. I demanded a referral to a physical therapist and when I hadn't heard back from the OB by the next day I called and scheduled the PT appointment on my own. The PT immediately said it sounded like SPD and after an examination said that the left side of my pelvis has slipped down out of joint which is why I have stabbing pain every time I take a step with my left leg. I've been given a few exercises to do to try to strengthen the muscles and bring the bone back in line. I'm also to rest...which is nearly impossible with two young children in the house. I am hobbling along like an old woman and cringing with every step I take. I am not supposed to take ibuprofen and Tylenol is also not a great option so there is not really any relief from the pain. Holy smokes...June 8 cannot get here fast enough.
