Homecoming Parade

The UI Homecoming parade is becoming an annual tradition thanks to Ms. Mayhem's invite last year. We head downtown around 4:00 to claim our spots and then hang out with all of our friends, grab some food, score goodies from the alumni tent, and wait for the parade to begin. Such a great time!

Charlie loved the bands. She would stare intently and blink every time she heard the snare drum. Look at her little clasped hands. Cute!

This girl knows how to work it for candy. Smiling, waving, and then tucking the goods into her candy bag.

After the parade Evy popped her teeth in and told me she was ready to eat some candy.

The Robe

When Evy gets out of bed in the morning she likes to stay huddled underneath a blanket on the couch because she is "freezing!" Refusing to move from her blanket does not exactly help us get out the door. Soooo, we got her a robe. She loves it and it's made our mornings much easier. Completely worth the investment!

Sisters

When we decided to add another child to the family I was worried about taking time and attention away from Evy. How would she respond? Would she be jealous of the new baby? Would she have a hard time adjusting? I never thought about the bond that the two of them would have. The minute we brought Charlotte home Evy loved "her baby." Now that Charlotte is older you can see that she loves her big sister. They chase each other around the house and giggle. They get excited to see each other if they've been apart. These are great moments. Of course, we have the moments of crying and not sharing toys, but I'm so glad we have this picture to capture the looks on their faces when they are having fun being sisters!

Oh, Mannit!

At lunch yesterday Scott told Evy that she needed to eat her meal. Evy responded, "Oh, man it!" We asked her where she had heard that word before and she responded "Mommy says it when she can't get my shows to work on the TV."

Guilty as charged, but not exactly the words I use. Totally in the running for Mom of the Year.

Evy's Day at Kinnick

Evy and I hitched a ride on the 9 a.m. train. Destination: Kinnick Stadium.

We met Scott at our tailgating spot and then headed off to see the Hawkeye Marching Band. Evy got a lift on Dad's shoulders.

Herky, Hawkeye Marching Band, Cheerleaders, and Dance Team. Awesome!

Go, Hawks!

The nice lady in front of us offered Evy a seat in her row so that we didn't have to hold Evy on our laps. I was shocked when Evy agreed to sit there.

As we were taking this photo a drunk college guy wanted to get his picture taken with Evy because according to him "She is as cute as a button!"

Evy spotted this cotton candy on Melrose before kickoff and spent the next 3 hours asking for pink cotton candy. We walked halfway around the stadium looking for some, thank goodness we found the Melrose guy on the way out.

Evy said the best part of her day was the pink cotton candy. Not the train, or the band, or Herky, or the game. I'll keep this in mind next time.

Eating all the way down Melrose.

Charlie had a good day too. She got to hang out with our awesome friend and sitter, Jenn!

Bye Bye Bottle

Clean and ready for storage.

Yum! Milk in a cup!

Look at me!

Big Sis wanted her picture taken too.

The bottles are getting packed away today and I'm pretty excited about that! Breastfeeding was a total bust (har! har!) again this time around so we've been cleaning, drying, and preparing bottles for over a year. See ya! Charlie gave us some major resistance to milk in a sippy cup for a few weeks yelling "No! No!" at us every time we would hand her a cup. In the last few days she's started taking milk from a cup just fine. The bottles are heading to storage in the basement. Will they be used again one day? To be determined.

CMA Fest on TV Tonight

Tune into ABC to watch the CMA Fest tonight at 7 p.m. See if you can spot us in the crowd! ABC will show a three hour concert that was filmed in Nashville during the Festival this June. Our favorite acts were Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, and Eric Church. Looking forward to seeing it all over again tonight (especially Luke Bryan!!). Should have worn my cowboy boots to work today!

Future Nudist

After nap time today Scott found Evy playing quietly in her room; completely naked. He said, "Evy why are you naked?" She responded, "Oh, I didn't even know I was."

Oh my...

Holiday Weekend Bust: Part 2

Going into the weekend Charlotte had a fever and runny nose. The plan was to spend two nights with Scott's parents on their houseboat. We loaded everyone up, armed with motrin, and spent 19 hours on the boat. After Evy came down with the same cold at 11:30 Saturday night and spent the entire night coughing with us in close quarters we were packed up and heading back home by 8 the next morning. If you'll recall, Evy was sick on Memorial Day Weekend so this was just a perfect book end to our summer!

Watching the Hawkeye game on the boat.

Evy went with Papa and Dad to the bait shop to buy crawdads.
A few hours later she landed this big guy!

Heading to the beach. Check out this very similar picture of Evy at this age.

Swimming in the muddy Mississippi

On the way back to the dock. Notice Charlotte is now starting to break
out in a rash (due to her virus, not the river water)!

And this pretty much summarizes the rest of the weekend.

Beautiful Ballerina

Evy started her second year of dance. She was super excited to meet her new teacher and see her dance buddy Savannah, but I think she was mostly excited to wear her new dance dress--"it habs sparkles on it!"

Like last year, Evy is participating in the dance program at our recreation center. On the way to class she told me she doesn't like class, she just likes dancing on the big stage, meaning the stage where her recital was last year. When we arrived she was so excited that she went rushing into the room before I could stop her--the class before us was still in session and it wasn't our turn yet! I think it's going to be another great dance year for Miss Evy.
