The Torture Chamber

This morning I had to take Evy to the torture chamber (aka doctor's office). She's had a runny nose and cough for 6 days. Low grade temperature Thursday - Sunday and then last night the fever spiked to 103. UGH! I would rather have a root canal than take Evy to the doctor. She flips out the second the nurse shuts the door. In her mind she must be thinking "They're going to kill me! Get me the hell out of here!" I brought a bag of tricks (literally) with me this morning hoping that a distraction from Elmo, a book, a block or yogurt melts would put the freak out at bay. Wrong, silly mommy. By the end of the exam I was sweating bullets. More of a work out than a 60 minute body pump session...which by the way, I haven't attended in more than 3 weeks since our house has been chaos with sickness. Did I mention they had to prick her finger to check for a bacterial infection? THEY'RE GOING TO REALLY KILL ME!!!!! Still sweating bullets. The doctor didn't find a bacterial infection so we were sent home to "wait it out". We left with no meds. I was hoping I could get some....guess that's a different kind of doctor....

Finger pricks are the worst. For my kids, even worse than having a shot. Hopefully spring weather will be here soon!

I think the kind of "meds" you are talking about aren't legal in Iowa at this point :)! SOS

Oh that's the worst...my Abigail used to be the same way. She had to get her blood drawn at her one year check up and it took her nearly 8 months to get over it. My doctor did her 18 month check up outside to avoid the drama. Hopefully it'll get better, I remember bring a bag of tricks as well and it never helped us either. Hope she's feeling better soon!
