Things That Make you Go Hmmmm...

The olympics have been very interesting to me this year, especially because I knew very little about China. The coverage has left me pondering several issues such as the impact of China's growing industry on the environment, the corruption of a government that is willing to lie about the ages of its women's gymnastics team and perhaps the thing that has left me most bewildered....why do the women's beach volleyball players wear tiny little bikini's to play a sport that requires them to dive, jump and lunge???

Girl, if I had a body like that, I would wear one even skimpier!!! Beach Volleyball is a rough sport. I am assuming that they need the freedom of almost being naked.....

It's worthy of note, perhaps, that the women don't wear these bikinis *indoors* when they're competing. Why not, if it's about freedom of movement? Hmmmm, indeed.

See, my thought is if it's a rough sport they need a uniform that offers a little more support. One that's not constantly "sneaking up the back" if you know what I mean.

It is hot out there! Men in the AVP don't wear shirts. Why should women cover up? Let them have their freedom in the hot sun.

PS. I don't think I could ever win an argument with map. He always has good points, but why not enjoy the view map? Perhaps it is your parental instinct.

Hey, alyssa, I'm all for these outfits! If it's OK with the players, it's OK with me. Suit 'em all up in thongs, if it'll make them more comfortable. One wonders, would they be wearing even less if one of the major broadcasters of the games *cough* USA *cough* weren't so puritanical with regards to public displays of the human body? Here's hoping I live long enough to see that wall come down. LOL

I'm still trying to figure out what the AVP is. Do tell...

Association of Volleyball Professionals. I think it's like the Shriners, without the red hats.

You guys crack me up. I have always been a huge fan of the beach volleyball from back when I got to hang out Karch Kiraly and Mike Dodd at an AVP tournament. I prefer to watch the men over the women.

Coming in 2012 (if I have my way):

THE NAKED SUMMER OLYMPICS.

The coverage has left me pondering what those poor athletes eat over there in Beijing? Grilled snake, dog livers, goat lungs... Gross!! I am a big fan of the bikini uniforms for the volleyball players, however!

I was told that the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) requires women to play in those outfits. It's their way of keeping spectator attendance up! Funny, huh?

Play naked I say. The sand is getting in to those hard to reach spots anyway!
