Stop the Madness

Parents,
Let's make a blog pact to stop the madness. I want all the madness stopped before Evy reaches the age that the madness commences. Repeat after me: "I (insert your name) promise not to enroll my 3-year old in consecutive dance, piano, soccer, gymnastics, art, and tee-ball lessons. I promise that I will not plan a theme-based, 30 guest, goody-bag distributing birthday party for my child until they reach the age of 10. This is my solemn vow." Can you make that vow? Or, do you feel fear bubbling up inside you? That fear that makes you think if you don't keep up with the madness your child will be friendless and will fall behind their peers. It's the good 'ole "Keeping Up with the Joneses" theory in action. AND I WANT IT TO STOP!

But without these social flags, how will I know whom to avoid?

WOW!! Did you happen to watch Jon and Kate Plus Eight or something? I agree with Mark to some degree. >^..^< P.S. So I take it your not throwing a big shindig for Miss Evy's 1st birthday!

Amen, I stopped most of the madness some time ago. It's made life managable and believe me the kids don't seem to care. And, don't fall into the first birthday trap--we did with Jack and NEVER again did we do "that" again. Poor Kate didn't even have a birthday "party" just a family celebration and she hasn't skipped a beat!

I took that vow 29 years ago before any of my 4 daughters were born. And I am so glad I did and so glad that I had the foresight to do it!!! :)

Sorry! I am guilty of all of this! And love it all! :)

Parents need to cut back on their children's activities and spend more time together as a family instead of rushing here and there for activities every night. Whatever happened to staying at home, playing, simplifying life, and "smelling the roses" with the whole family??? We need to get back to the basics.
