Daycare Question
I am currently less than thrilled with my daycare center. One of my major concerns is turnover and the fact that the center does not communicate the turnover with parents. In my opinion I shouldn't have to ask the staff if someone still works there after not seeing the individual for a number of days. For those of you who use daycare centers: are you notified when one of the "teachers" in your room either quits or is fired? The afternoon lead teacher quit and I didn't find out until today when I asked another one of the staff members in the room. This is the 3rd time in 3 months that the afternoon teacher has quit.

Emily,
Only one staff member has left Love-a-Lot in the baby house since Sasha has been there, and they posted a note letting us know when Monica's last day would be...like, two weeks in advance.
I, too, would be a bit unsettled about how it's being handled there. Sheila
hmm... I suppose it depends on how they go? I am not sure about this one... if the teacher had been there for a long time and established relationships with the parents I am sure you would be notified about it. if someone was fired you're probably not going to know about it unless the director knew you had used them as a sitter or your child was affected by it more than other kids. a lot of afternoon teachers are high school students at our center- so they come and go with the change of seasons (sports) and obviously off to college. establish good relationships with evy's teachers- and with the director- make sure you're always in the know!!! ...and good luck ;-)
Kenz, I think that's a bit of the prob...Emily wants the relationship with the teachers and staff and it's not happening. Of course, there is turn-over in daycare settings, but changes to staff, your childs specific provider (baby room specifically) and general guidelines...what are your thoughts on that one? I think Emily is trying to reserve judgement and waiting for a reason she feels "unsettled". And, you are a pro, so really what do you think :) ?
I can say from personal experience that every now and then there might be an issue, but I feel completely comfortable addressing it with the owner and/or staff and know it will be addressed.
There are lots of "floaters" in the room along with 3 "main" teachers. It's the main afternoon teacher position that has been vacated 3 times and we were only notified the first time it happened. I think in a lot of instances the individual quits and doesn't give notice. But I think the center should notify us when one of the main teachers quits. Or, do I have high expectations? I'm meeting with the director and her supervisor on Monday and have lots of topics for discussion!
It's so hard! I have very high expectations and I have a hard time when they aren't met at daycare. Do I expect so much because I work so hard at my job and I want the teachers to care for their job as much as I do at mine?? I feel your pain and I am moving Ella to a better (at least I hope) daycare next month. She has been on the waiting list since the stick was positive and I can get her in at 7 months of age! Hang in there! Make a list of questions/concerns before your meeting....I have to do that for everything now! Good luck!
